The orphanage has physiotherapists and some teachers with sign and speech and language therapy training, but with just under 500 children in the whole orphanage, there just aren’t enough staff to provide input to all the children. The children with the most severe and multiple disabilities are the least likely to get any input. These are the children we aim to bring support to and in turn show how much they can do with input.
This is why 1Step2Step wish to provide holistic support to the children and are always seeking advice and hands on assistance from physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, nurses, doctors and nutritionists to aid our workers to help children reach their full potential. This is part of our long-term goal both in Thailand and from UK. The help they offer is a valuable contribution to our work in the orphanage and brings encouragement and ideas to our workers. We value people with the skills and experience who can come as volunteers or to be available via the internet to offer advice and support. We look at our children as full people and wish to develop their whole well being which is the reason we seek advice from all specialists.
