The children we will be working with will have had very disrupted lives already and we feel that having short term volunteers will not help the bonding and attachment if people leave after only a few weeks. We are therefore asking that volunteers give three months or more to the project. You will be able to see how much of a difference your help has been to the children if you are able to give longer spells of time.
We are looking for people who are trained therapists, who will be able to support the work that the portage workers are doing and help develop greater mobility and language skills with the children. Occupational, physio and speech and language therapists are our first requirement, but other therapists would be great as well. We may consider specialist volunteers on short-term basis where there is a specific project that requires this.
If you’re not a therapist but would like to help these children, we do have a need for volunteers to help with the day-to-day hands-on work of taking children on trips and supporting Nicola and the orphanage staff.
If you are interested in volunteering, we would love to hear from you. Please download the information pack (Volunteer Pack 2017) and if after reading this you are interested in applying please email firstname.lastname@example.org for an application form. Complete and return the application form. We will consider your application and may contact referees and conduct an interview either in person or electronically as part of our decision making process. As you are hoping to work with children we will carry out DBS checks. This all takes time, typically several months, and you are advised to apply as soon as possible to allow enough time for the necessary steps to be completed.
If your application is successful, we will be then be able to advise you about cost and information about where you would live and what you will need. We look forward to hearing from you.
